School of Fine Arts - UFRJ - Rio, 1980

The Venus Rape is a photographic assay carried through to 5:00H of the morning in the corridor of 7th floor of the School of Fine Arts of the UFRJ. The sequence of photos in black and white aimed to discuss and to criticize the academic art and drawing education and to the classic concept of artistic creation expressed for the majority of the professors of that time. Developed in sepia tones they intended to show a conflict and at the same time to be integrated to the visual environment of the school concept, as a part of the classical history of the art. Displayed in 30 x 40 cm magnifyings before the arrival of the pupils and professors in the entrance mural of 7th floor, the sequence generated controversy, favorable manifestations of the majority, protests and censorship of the conservatives and academics redoubts.
